Help project #3

For my last help project, I have been helping set up for all the dances so far and I'm also helping set up for the valentines party. The objective of this project is to give students from all classes the oppertunity to get together and meet eachother. The valentine party is less formal then a dance and it's still a chance to see everyone and just have fun. Our goal as a leaderclass is to become leaders and learn how to become a good leader and I think that setting up for these kinds of ASB events shows our leadership. It also helps to build school spirit so studnents attedning this school can learn and have fun. For both the dance I have stayed after school to help finish setting up (making posters, setting tables, making decorations). Right now I'm also helping make decorations for the Valentine party in 2 weeks. I helped Sarah cut out hearts of different sizes and put glitter on them in different patterns so all of them look cute and unique in their own little ways.

Help Project #2

Helping AJ make posters to promote the Ballroom Dance team. Majority of the members have graduated last year and most of the rest of them are graduating this year so in order to keep the team going, we need to inform some of the underclassmen about this team and try to get them to at least try it out. A lot of the seniors are too busy to go to practice now and class sizes are getting smaller and smaller. This makes our coach sad so we are trying to get some new students to join and learn the basics of ballroom. It seems like the only problem is many people don't know about the team's existence so some publicity should help solve that problem. I have been in ballroom since a freshmen so if anyone has any questions regarding it, i can be a good person to talk to for more information.

Help Project #1 (Talent Show)

For my first help project, I was following Elizabeth Ong with the talent show.  The objective of this project is to recognize the students at AHS that have talent. The talent show gives them a reason to show their talent to everyone else in the school. This project aligns with our goals as a classs because we are reaching out to other students outside of leadership class and give them a chance to to show some unique characteristics they might have. A week or two before the talent show, she asked me what role I wanted to take and I said that I want to be the decorator. After she decided on a theme for the talent show, I brainstormed with Elizabeth, Mrs. Wombold and everyone else helping about what we can do for decorations and people suggested that we had a slide show playing in the background. Going with this idea, I created two slide shows (one with artists and the other with albums). We never ended up using it because we couldn't find screens to project it on so in the end, the decorations were just a few lights on the stage, I few gold painted black disks in the background and a pitch black room with spotlights only on the performers so give the environment of being at the Grammy's. After school I also made large posters to put around the school to help inform others about the talent show and when it took place. I walked into the talent show during the real thing and saw that it was a full house (all seats were taken) and everything seemed to run fairly smoothly so I was glad that everything worked out (even with 3 acts suddenly dropping out). I also heard from many people that it was very successful and everyone who went said that they liked it so that was also good news.

Second Lead Project Reflection

Toy Drive:

The toy drive was not as successful as I would like it to be. I made posters, updated people on facebook and also told as many people as I could individually but seems like it was hard for people to remember to bring in toys (maybe because everyone was stressed about the semester ending and dealing with finals). If I were to do this same project again, I may need to change some things like better ideas in publicity (probably go to every advisory and announce the drive). I noticed that not very many people actually pay attention to posters, especially since there are so many posters up in the hallways. Another posters just adds to it but doesn't really get people's attention. I should also somehow make people more into it by promoting why the drive is important, where the things will go and how it will directly help people.

Blog #6 - Lead Project One Reflection

The Senior Holiday Party was a huge success! Seemed like everyone who went had a lot of fun and it was a great way to start everybodys break and get them into the holiday season. The restaurant had great service and many people were willing to stay and help clean up. During the party we played white elephant and everyone remember to bring in a gift :) They also followed directions and didn't bring in anything that they wouldn't want to receive themselves (except one). Surprise Santa also followed directions and came in 30 minutes late. That gave everyone a nice surprise and made it possible for us to take pictures with Santa (big thanks to Mathew Iverson). Overall I would say that everything worked as planned and enough people showed up to make it fun. Our mentor (Mr. Shiroma was really laid back about kids yelling and screaming). If I had to do this over again, next time i would remember to ask ASB for some money before hand. This time I didn't think we would need ABS money so I didn't ask ASB but turns out that I didn't have enough decorations at home so i ended up having to use my own money to buy decorations. Pros of the party? Everyone had fun! it was also a great bonding experience. Cons: I really wish I didn't have to invest my own money into this (especially when I don't get those things back) but the trade off was good. It was more worth it when people tell me that they had a lot of fun.

December 13, 2010 IP Update

First Lead Project:

First lead project is coming to completion. The party will be this friday (December 17th). it will be casual and holiday themed. Everyone who coming needs to bring in a white elephant gift (around a $5 value). I will be handing out information flyers to all of the seniors during advisory. Location is the Mark in Burien and time is 5:00pm - 8: 30 pm.

Second Lead Project:

Ran into some conflicts. The original plan was to donate th stuf animal to a SAFE volunteer that will ensure the donations will end up in the hands of someone who needs it but she has decided that this is too big of a donation for her to handle. Now I'm still looking for places that will take used toy donations.
